HACKENSACK, N.J., March 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Brian Mehling, M.D. is an internationally-known, board-certified orthopedic trauma surgeon who practices in the greater New York City metropolitan area. Dr. Mehling received a bachelor of arts and master of science degrees in biochemistry from the Ohio State University and his M.D. from The Wright State University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital and his fellowship in sports medicine at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Mehling is also a stem cell researcher who believes advanced stem cell therapies will soon be preferred over many surgical, pharmacological, and rehabilitative medical services.

One of his patients, Salvador Flores, a 56-year-old resident of Ridgefield Park, NJ, has faced many obstacles since he suffered a work-related injury in 2008. Mr. Flores fell from a ladder and sustained a severe leg fracture. Since then, he has had more than 20 surgeries to repair his leg and save it from amputation.

This was how he met Brian Mehling, M.D. an orthopedic trauma surgeon and founder of Mehling Orthopedics, with offices in New York and New Jersey.

Dr. Mehling performed Mr. Flores’s complex, reconstructive surgeries to save his leg from amputation. The complicated surgeries involved implanting surgical screws, bondants, and wires to knit Mr. Flores bones back together.

The surgeries were successful and Mr. Flores continued rehabilitation and now walks without a cane. He has experienced newfound energy and mobility he hasn’t felt in years.

Mr. Flores is now able to participate in the activities he was so eager to engage in again. “The daily pain level continued to decrease and my friends and family noticed a positive change in my mood, I am more optimistic. I am grateful to Dr. Mehling and his staff at Mehling Orthopedics. His dedication saved my life.”

As a token of his and his family’s appreciation, Mr. Flores wife, Mirian Flores, and other family members crafted a beautiful hand-made hammock for Dr. Mehling. The hammock has letters worked into it that read “Thank you Dr. Mehling.”

Dr. Mehling expressed his gratitude: “I am really glad that I was able to help Mr. Flores. It is satisfying for me as his doctor to see his improvements and his determination. At his most recent office visit, Mr.Flores was joking about dancing again and even showed us some dance moves. It was great to see him in such a positive spirit.”
